The Overarching Reproductive Law Project (ORLP) identified the urgent need for legal protections for California attorneys practicing reproductive justice, as many states moved to severely restrict or ban abortion care. ORLP petitioned the California State Bar for ethical guidance, leading the State Bar’s Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct (COPRAC) to consider drafting a formal ethics opinion on the very issues ORLP brought forward.

SACRAMENTO – In a significant effort to advance reproductive freedom, Governor Gavin Newsom today signed legislation to protect access to essential reproductive care and help shield health care providers, patients, and lawyers from adverse legal action.


The Governor also signed AB 1525 (Committee on Judiciary), helping to shield attorneys assisting other states with access to reproductive care from State Bar discipline
